Beautiful Large Blue French Toile de Jouy Vintage Cotton Lined Curtains

  
This gorgeous pair of curtains & tie backs in traditional Toile de Jouy named "Pastorale" are mid blue with a pale ivory background on smooth medium weight cotton , fully lined with ivory cotton. They would look great in any room and are in excellent condition with pin tucked goblet heading freshly laundered & ready to hang. Full length 2.3 meters long they could easily be reworked into two pairs. Literally translating to "Cloth from Jouy" (a little town near Versailles), this famous, pretty printed fabric is an important part of French history and savoir-faire.

Along with idyllic, romantic landscape scenes, toile patterns were also used to tell a story. Some referenced tales of European mythology and others mirrored major events of the time. For the printing process, vignettes were originally carved on woodblocks, and after 1770, engraved on copper plates. Width 1.52 meters bottom (Top pleated 0.75 meters could be adjusted).

Weight 1.8 kilos Total 3.6 kilos. Vintage, excellent condition I see no faults. From 1 January 2021, the UK will introduce a new model for collecting VAT on imports.
