French Antique Quilt Piquee Boutis Red Large Scale Floral Lilac Striped Cotton

  

Hello and welcome to The Textile Trunk! This is a simply gorgeous French antique quilt, featuring a stunning red floral quilt top, a sweet and simple lilac striped backing, and cotton batting inside! This French antique quilt features a beautiful red floral quilt top dating from around 1880, printed in faded green, pink, and red tones with wandering vines and billowing leaves and blossoms! The backing is made from a 19th century lilac and white striped cotton backing.

There is a dense cotton batting inside. Hand-stitched along the edges and hand-quilted with amazing geometric patterns, this gorgeous quilt adds abundant timeworn elegance to a wide variety of room styles! From country and farmhouse to cottage-inspired and everything in between, the timeless color palette and large-scale floral pattern bring so much antique flair and character wherever it goes!

MEASUREMENTS: This lovely quilt measures approximately 60 inches wide by 69 inches long. I've freshly laundered this quilt, and it's ready to use!

If you would like to launder this quilt yourself at home, simply machine wash with your regular detergent, and tumble or line dry. This quilt is not without the signs of time, use, age, and love so often inherent in these wonderful textiles.

There are some small holes and worn spots along all edges of the quilt, where the top and backing have worn and the cotton batting can be seen. There are also a few small areas along all seams, each about 1 inch long, where the seams have come undone, and the cotton batting is peeking out or exposed. There is also a small tear, about 1 inch square, in the backing. These could easily be repaired with hand-stitching. On the striped backing, there are two larger splits, one about three inches wide and one about six inches wide, where the seams have come undone, revealing the cotton batting inside. These could also be easily closed with hand-stitching. There are several small pea-size holes on both sides of the quilt, revealing the cotton batting inside.

Here and there, the red ground of the floral print has faded slightly, close to the quilting stitches, giving it a beautifully timeworn look! There may be one or two other imperfections here or there on both sides of this quilt: a tiny rust stain, a small pale mark, etc. Not pristinely perfect, but ideal for anyone who doesn't mind the quirks and imperfections that years of use and love impart!
