This is a stunning mahogany wardrobe / armoire covered in silver leaf that has been one of my favourite pieces of furniture the past few years and received lots of compliments from friends and family. It has a huge mirror, an ornate carved crest, and lots of fully-adjustable space inside.
It looks very glamorous, feels solid, and holds a lot of clothes or bedding. One of the best things about this gorgeous wardrobe is that it is easy and intuitive to dissassemble and reassemble relatively for large sturdy pieces of furniture!
, as we know, as we have moved house with it. It's one I can take up and down easily. They give this description, as follows. This stunning silver leaf armoire is carved from mahogany. Featuring beautiful hand carving and a heavy bevelled glass door. Behind the lockable door lie 2 full length adjustable shelves and a solid hanging rail. Features a heavy bevelled glass door, full width hanging rail and 2 height adjustable shelves. Made with: Carved mahogany finished in a silver leaf. NB the outside is all silver leaf, and the inside is painted in a soft cream colour.Their website goes on to say that a large amount of their furniture is made in the UK, so this may well be, but I do not know for sure. It says, We are proud to announce that a large amount of our turniture is made here in the UK by master craftsmen. As well as providing our customers with quality turniture that we guarantee will stand the test of time we can also take comfort in knowing that we are supporting British industry. One thing I would say about the photos of this: it's been near-impossible to capture the whole wardrobe in one photo as the sloping ceilings and attic beams in the room coming across the top of the wardrobe when trying to take its picture from the staircase, and bed in the way once one is in the room mean that I couldn't get that perfect photo square on, but the Lucy Willow website has one, hence I led with that photo.
It is still full of clothes on the hanging rail. The shelves can be taken in and out easily for clever flexibility, and instead of using the two shelves in the traditional way, at the moment I've used them as a sort of containment pen for bedding, hence one is slotted in horizontally as a shelf but the other is sitting vertically to contain the downy bedding. These clothes and bedding will relocate to another closet soon. I wanted to list this while it is still full.If it goes to a new home before we empty it, I will just empty it straight away and take it down for its new owner. If it doesn't sell before I relocate its contents, I can change the photographs to how it looks empty, and then I will take it down and can show it disassembled. Once I've done that and the work office furniture arrives, I won't have a place to reassemble it entirely, just to say, but will store it in parts until it goes to its new home. It is still in fabulous condition overall and has been one of my favourite pieces in the last few years because of its beauty and sturdiness, and, well, glamour! We had to make some adjustments taking 2 - 3 inches off the back feet to get it level in our Tudor-aged house, so if your house also has sloping floors, then this is already perfect!
However, if your house has more level floors, it would require some light DIY skills to level up the back feet again to the front, either with blocks (which could be silver-leafed or painted silver if wished), or by a carpenter adding to the back feet permanently. (See side-on photo showing the feet). The silver is in remarkably wonderful condition!
It has two areas of tiny losses of the silver, both shown in two different close-up photographs. This could be easily covered over with fresh silver leaf or blended in with silver paint, or left, as we have done, as it adds to the shabby-chic vibe. The wardrobe opens with a key and knob and secures closed again with the key. Once you open the wardrobe door, on the inside edge of the door there is some loss of silver because the door is a lovely snug fit and rubs lightly when opening and closing. This can be easily touched up, but we haven't done, because it will just rub off again on further opening and shutting the door.
It does not show at all from the outside and is not noticed uness you are looking for it! Other than that, I believe it to be in complete and wonderful condition! I can help with this if needed. We have moved house with this gorgeous wardrobe before and were very pleased with how well made it is and how easy to take it down and put it up again. Thank you so much for your interest if you've gotten this far!
We are downsizing and reluctantly parting with some beautiful things, so grab a bargain! If you don't like the price, please make an offer! I inspect everything carefully and pack securely also, usually with recycled materials. I photograph, measure and describe everything to the best of my knowledge and ability.
